Reserve duty, projects, troubleshooting, hobbies – and a constant smile.
Who are you, Itay Mordoch?
“My name is Itay, I’m 23 and from Ashkelon. I’ve been a network and information security engineer at Oasis Technologies for a year and a half. I actually started out studying electrical and electronics engineering, but my military service in the C4I Corps changed my direction. That’s where I was first exposed to the world of communications, networks and automation – and I’ve been completely into it ever since.”
Itay served in the Hoshen unit, in the data and encryption section, where he got to know networking up close. He describes his service as meaningful and enriching: he not only learned the fundamentals of communications and security, but also started developing automations in Python – and from there the road to cyber and IT was short.
So what do you actually do at Oasis?
“I’m responsible for designing, building, managing and maintaining communication networks and information security – including firewalls, migrations, network traffic analysis and solving complex faults. I take projects end to end: understanding the customer’s needs, specifying, installing the equipment, testing and going live.”
The work combines equipment and systems from leading vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, F5, Palo Alto, Fortinet and Arista. Itay says the wide variety of customers, environments and projects is exactly what he loves about the role.

What challenges do you face in the role?
“Sometimes there are complex faults that need an immediate response, or situations that call for a delicate balance between customer requirements and infrastructure limits. Not to mention reserve duty, which can come up at the least convenient moments.”
Juggling all these worlds – a full-time job, significant reserve service and a personal life – takes a lot of flexibility, time management and precision. In Itay’s words: “It’s a challenge, but I wake up every morning with a smile.”
What does a typical day look like?
“My day starts with laying tefillin, a good-morning chat with my partner Adar, coffee with the family and an hour-and-a-quarter drive to work. At the office we open the morning with coffee and laughs, and then everyone gets into their own world.
Projects, faults, emails, support – everything happens in parallel. At lunch we sit together in the office, relax, and then carry on with the day.”
Itay’s evenings vary: a workout, reserve duty, time with his partner or family, studying and playing the guitar.
“I have days that start at 9:00 and end the next day at 18:00. It’s really crazy – but I enjoy the mix.”

What are your everyday tools?
What have you learned along the way?
The future is already here
Itay sees his future heading toward cloud and network automation. “That’s where the world is going. It’s important to me to go deeper and keep learning – not to get stuck.”
A message to readers
“Don’t stop enjoying the journey. The summit may still be far away – but after it, it’s downhill. What you remember is the journey itself.”
And when not at work?
“I’m an independent trader in the capital markets – something that has taught me a lot about mindset, responsibility and looking ahead. I also love playing the guitar. With everything going on, I have to say I have a partner in all of this, and she’s amazing; I try hard to make time to be with her, learn new things and spend time with family and friends.”

Itay is a great example of young professionals who live their field, combining hobbies, reserve duty and family with top professionalism, ambition and a forward-looking view.
